Author appearances, school and library visits and festivals

I write funny, feel good stories for 7-12 year olds. I love to write about children who are not normally centre-stage like geeks, tomboys and misfits.

Help I'm an Alien is the first book in a brand new series published by Troika Books.

I love to meet my readers and I'm able to come to schools and libraries to talk about my books, my writing and how I became an author.

My workshops are fun and interactive. They are based around my books so include themes of friendship and family as well as crazy inventions and wacky characters.

Successful workshops include :

Where do you get your ideas from?
The question that all authors get asked. We generate ideas from scratch and decide which ones would make an interesting story.
Would you be friends with an alien?
Great for anti bullying week. I show pictures of various aliens (eg ET, Dr Who, Sontaran) and ask who they would most like to be friends with and why. This can lead to a creative writing exercise on what are the features of a true friend.
What would you take to another planet?
Using mood boards and word clouds as a starting point, I ask everyone to imagine what they would write in a letter home if they were to move to a different planet.

This can be extended, for older children, to a discussion about refugees fleeing from home in an emergency and being forced into making choices about what to take with them.

I'm happy to visit schools and libraries all over the UK.

Feel free to contact me and ask questions about possible visits without feeling obliged to book me.
There are lots of details about me, my books and my mad dog on my website www.jofranklinauthor.co.uk
