A published freelance journalist for 25 years – in national, regional and local magazines and newspapers – Elizabeth Gates has at last turned to fiction. Her novel, The Wolf of Dalriada, is a foray into writing historical adventure with more in the pipeline. She's currently writing a sequel set in Revolutionary France and planning a possible prequel exploring mysticism and legend in the Highlands.
But, since 2005, as Director of Lonely Furrow Company writing consultancy, Elizabeth has also tutored individuals and groups in the arcane arts of creative writing. Her story-telling and creative writing workshops have received rave reviews and she has delivered these on a local and/or national level.
Elizabeth believes that 'doing' is the most effective way of 'learning' and workshops comprise a range of customised, focused and themed writing exercises. As a result, much of the enjoyment Elizabeth's workshop participants derive comes from her innovative and challenging teaching methods. At each workshop, participants find they are able to deliver personal and/or collaborative 'writing' of which they can be proud. This forms the basis of a writing portfolio and gives each 'writer' confidence in their own abilities.
When not writing or teaching, Elizabeth enjoys reading, travel, family and friends. She misses her labradors a lot.
