Details

I am a writer with a legal background, having worked as a Solicitor for 25 years. I was inspired to start writing fiction as a result of many of the issues that I have come across in my legal work, and in particular the problems faced by many of the women in the South Asian and Muslim communities in which I have lived and worked. I am an experienced, engaging advocate and speaker, having given presentations in the UK and the USA. I also mentor secondary school children (on behalf of a charity), and volunteer for a domestic violence charity.

In keeping with nature of my writing, my talks tend to focus on many of the cultural and social issues of contemporary multi-cultural Britain, how these can be explored through fiction, and the role that writers have to play in bringing these matters into sharper focus.

My first novel, Stained, was was published in the USA by Harvard Square Editions in October 2016. I also write short stories, and have been shortlisted in several short story awards. I also guest blog for various publications.
