Details

Every person has a story inside. Long, short, tragic, humorous, and so many more; there is a story waiting to be told. The trick is to find a way to tell it, whether you are academically gifted or barely literate. So my talks and workshops all have the same basic aim: to inspire and enthuse people, whatever their background, to have a go.

As an author of about twenty books so far,  and stories and articles for magazines, I write mostly serious and humorous fiction for children and young teenagers, with some non-fiction.  My workshops can cover any aspect of creative writing, including plot, character, imagery and performance. Workshops and talks are offered for child AND/OR adult audiences (staff, parents, local community). I am happy to work with mixed-age or family audiences.

In addition to being an established author, I have a professional background in child protection and anti-bullying projects; I can offer In-Service Training for all staff who work with children. These can be stand-alone events or linked to a creative writing/ consultation residency involving both children and adults.

As a Writing Fellow with the Royal Literary Fund, I have experience in working with Further Education students to improve writing skills for essays, dissertations etc.

I am happy to work with an audience of up to 60 for a talk or 30 for a workshop on a one-day visit.
