Although I was a primary school teacher for a relatively short time, I've been in and out of schools ever since, so I have many years of experience of talking to children and holding their attention.

In my sessions I talk about every aspect of the writing process, illustrating points by reading from my stories, and try to answer all the children's questions as honestly as I can.
I write for all ages - for boys and girls - and have material at every level up to 13 years. I especially enjoy sessions with 10-12 year olds where I like to establish a dialogue through questions and answers which always works brilliantly.
Over the years I have also talked to many adult groups (eg PTA's) about the importance of reading to children and have given talks to students and newly qualified teachers about how to make story time an exciting event.
I live in Leicester but am prepared to travel particularly for festivals or library events which might offer two or more consecutive days work as I've often done in Scotland - a place I always enjoy visiting.
I'm pretty traditional in my approach, I don't stand on my head, wear funny hats or make a lot of noise but I do know how to hold an audience and always treat children's questions with complete respect. I think it's important for children to see that writers are ordinary sympathetic human beings - just like them.

I have had over 110 titles published for all ages and many of those are still in print. A new series mixing dinosaurs and diggers is on its way.
