I am an experienced speaker and have given very well-received talks to a variety of audiences. I have a B.Ed (First Class Hons) degree in Drama and an MA in writing. I taught for many years in London and on the Wirral and it was my privilege to give Daniel Craig his first acting experience.

'KEEP SMILING THROUGH!' WITH THE ANNIVERSARY OF VE DAY FALLING THIS YEAR MY FOLLIES SERIES, WHICH TRACES THE WARTIME ADVENTURES OF FOUR YOUNG PEOPLE, WHO ARE ALL INVOLVED IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER IN MAINTAINING MORALE THROGH THEIR TALENTS AS ENTERTAINERS, IS PARTICULARLY TOPICAL.

My novels fall into the category 'historical romance' but this is misleading. All the books are very carefully researched and the settings and incidents in them are as accurate as I can make them. Many of them are based on first hand accounts and the lives of real people. For example, the books in the 'Leonora' trilogy were inspired by the life of Mabel Stobart, the founder of the Women's Sick and Wounded Convoy, which helped to care for wounded soldiers during the First Balkan War and then the First World War. Stobart was a leading figure in the suffrage movement so the books give an insight into attitudes to women at this period. Also, through the experiences of the heroine's brother, Ralph,  and his friend Tom there is a vivid account of life in the trenches.

The 'Follies' series is set during World War ll, as are 'We'll Meet Again' and 'Never Say Goodbye'.  The latter two books feature young women recruited into the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry and subsequently into SOE, the Special Operations Executive, so these again give an insight into the position of women. They also bring in the story of the activities of SOE  in training and deploying secret agents. This theme is followed further in the 'Follies' series and all the incidents are based on the real life accounts of surviving agents. In this quartet the four leading characters follow very different paths. As well as the activities of SOE the books bring in the work of those whose job it was to entertain the troops and civilians in order to keep up morale; the pioneering work of Archibald McIndoe in rebuilding the faces of burned airmen; the war in the desert and all the other major battles of the war.

OPERATION KINGFISHER is also set in WWll and tells the story of a pair of teenagers trying to escape from occupied France. Much of the journey is accomplished on the canal network, so it is of special interest to those keen on inland waterways.

APHRODITE'S ISLAND is set on Cyprus during and after the EOKA troubles. It is a love story that spans two generations.

THE LAST HERO is very different, being set at aroung 1200 b.c in Mycenean Greece. Again, it has been closely researched and is based on archeological evidence. It tells the story of the collapse of the Mycenean Empire in the face of attacks from the north. It is not a tale of gods and goddesses, but it would serve as a good introduction to the Iliad, since the heroes of my story are the descendants of those who fought at Troy.

My latest novel is TWICE ROYAL LADY, the story of Queen Matilda, granddaughter of the Conqueror and mother of King Henry ll, who fought a civil war with her cousin Stephen for the throne of England.

A feature of many of my books is a gay relatinship between two men, so they can serve as an introduction to discussions about attitudes to homosexuaity at different periods.
