Emilie Lauren Jones is a Coventry based poet, running monthly workshops for both Positive Images Festival and Writing West Midlands' Spark Writers Scheme. Emilie's work has recently appeared in HCE Magazine, 'I am not a silent poet' and poetry anthology ‘Global Warning’.
Previous headline act for several open mic nights including Fire & Dust (Coventry), WordWise (Derby) and The Storytelling Café (Leamington), plus PGR Slam 2019 Winner (Kenilworth), Poet in Residence for Hillz FM and regular contributor to Radio Abbey. Emilie completed her MA in Creative Writing at the University of Birmingham in 2018. In 2019 she was one of thirty writers and artists commissioned by City of Culture 2021 as part of the #HumansOfCov project.
Emilie is passionate about spreading her love of poetry and encouraging others to write, no matter what their age or previous writing experience is. She has been into several schools to run workshops, and teachers are often left pleasantly surprised by the quality of poems their children have been inspired to produced during the session. References available on request. In a previous life, Emilie worked as a HLTA at a Coventry Primary School and gained much experience working with children of varying abilities, needs and backgrounds.
Emilie also has experience in guest speaking and has been a speaker for many independent social groups, as well as for larger organisations like Age UK. She offers talks on poetry (both her own experience as a poet and talks about poetry in general), her role as co-editor of Chatterbox Magazine and talks about the positive impact writing can have on mental health and well-being.
Emilie is willing to travel to perform and run workshops, long distance travel may be reflected in the price quoted.
We were visited by Emilie last week and the pupils were completely engaged with her speech for the entire session and have taken away some fantastic ideas to get involved with their own poetry writing. She was professional and had a brilliant rapport with pupils straight away.
