I write about language, words and dictionaries, and give light-hearted talks on how dictionaries are compiled, on who gets to decide whether a word is really a word, on the history of dictionaries and of English, on word origins, and on other language-related topics.
I am a qualified teacher and act as literacy consultant to publishers. In addition, I compile crosswords and teach courses on how to solve cryptic crosswords.

I have written over 25 books including
