Hi my name is Dr Attiya Khan - I am a mother of three and work as a GP in East London. I have been part of critique groups for many years and hold an MA in Modern Literature from Birkbeck, where I graduated with merit. I was selected to be part of the David Higham s Open day for underrepresented writers, and was also on the longlist for Undiscovered Voices 2020. Ten Steps To Us is my debut book and has been well received by critics and readers alike with a 4.2 star rating on Goodreads. It reached number 3 in the UK YA chart for Islamic fiction. It has also been listed as a finalist in the Indie Excellence Awards.
It has also received interest in being adapted for TV.

Attiya Khan came to visit us at Oaklands School for World Book Day 2023, she presented an inspiring assembly with our Year 7 cohort about how she came to write and have published her book ‘Ten Steps to Us’. Our students were very interested in all aspects of her talk, from her experiences that formed the basis of her book to the process of beginning to write and then finally finding a publisher. The students asked many questions so much so that I had to call the assembly to a close with many hands still up.
Attiya then conducted a writing workshop with a group of 20 Year 8 students. The students were very excited to work with Attiya, some who are usually rather reserved really shone in this small group session. We presented the best works with signed copies of Attiya’s book.
I would not hesitate in recommending Attiya to attend school visits and would certainly contact her to come back in the future. For our students it was a gift to experience a successful professional from the same background as themselves.
Attiya Khan visited St Paul's Way Trust School for World Book Day 2022 and led an insightful assembly with Year 7 students about her new book Ten Steps to Us. The students loved her presentation and asked interesting questions to find out more about Attiya's writing processes, how she became a published author, whilst also exploring the themes of her book. The presentation talked about difficult themes of the book including toxic friendships and mixed-race relationships which Attiya explained excellently to our students. She talked about how important it is that every child sees themselves represented in the literature they read. Attiya also led a writing workshop with a smaller group of 15 Year 8 pupils which was received really well. Weeks after the event, the library team are still receiving questions and praise from students regarding Attiya's visit and her book has a long waitlist with students excited to read it. I can't recommend Attiya's services enough and we'd love to have her back for another visit.
