Creative Writing and Reading workshops for schools: from Year 4 to Year 13 and adults too

As a former teacher, Head of Department at Grey Coat Hospital School and parent, children's author Elisa Marcella Webb has great skill and experience at delivering tailor made and bespoke workshops to develop students' love of reading and writing. These workshops focus on key skills that every writer battles with: description, dialogue, forward action and emotion; as well as hitting key OFSTED criteria so that all students are fully engaged in a flow activity applying new skills to a novel situation. She can also deliver Q & As, assembles and adult workshops.

Elisa Marcella Webb recently set up the Book Explorers Tours at Waterstones Kingston to encourage inner city students to learn how to browse books and navigate bookstores to better access the wonderful world of literature. She is a practice-based Southern Gothic Imaginative Writing PhD student at Kingston University. Darkling Park, her debut novel is a children's adventure set in a South London graveyard. She is working on her second novel Three Kids and a Dead Dog set in Georgia, U.S.A. She has had 17 short stories published alongside several articles.

An absolutely excellent book, hard to put down! Despite being a children's book it is suitable for all ages with some nuggets of comedy for adults. It's a tale of adventure, humour and friendship and I would truly recommend to anyone to read. Darkling Park Amazon review.

Children, teachers and TAs have come up to me this afternoon to tell me how impressed they were with your workshop. Staff said the children were hanging off your every word! The children are really excited to read your book! I popped my head into Year 5 in the late afternoon and I could feel a real buzz of excitement with the children and the staff! I think you really inspired children today. Thank you so much! We would love to have you back next year. Workshop review.

5.00 per head for a workshop (1 hour or 1.30 hours, 2019) or two free workshops for schools that purchase a class set of Darkling Park (20 plus copies at 8.99 each). Patrician Press will deliver free of charge, on day of workshop. ISBN 9780993494536 Do call and discuss for further details, discounts and adult bookings. Some events are free. I also undertake writing, editing work and tuition.

Books by Elisa Webb

Darkling Park is literary fiction for inner city children and their families. It’s an adventure about making friends and taking on bullies. It’s Five Children and It meets Stranger Things. It’s set in my south London neighborhood: Tooting. And it’s had great reviews. Three Kids and a Dead Dog is my second novel. I’m working on it as part of my PhD so I’m constantly honing my craft and reminded of the stresses and strains of being a student again. The synopsis in 6 words: Waker, Theo and Halo find mummified Nephilim. (O.K. 7 words but 6 sounds better). I’ve had 17 short stories published in collections including: Chains: Unheard Voices, Refugees and Peacekeepers, Tempest An Anthology, and All Over the Damn Place which I created and edited to bring together my talented MA cohort then spread across 7 time zones and 3 continents.

Darkling Park

Darkling Park is an unusual children’s adventure set it a graveyard. When Fin and her embarrassing family move to Darkling Park, Fin worries about why their new home is called Blind Twin House and will she ever live it down at school? Even worse, there’s something or someone lurking in the bushes. Fin makes friends with odd boy Zen and his strange stripy dog. Together they discover there’s something weird and wonderful beneath the graves. And that Ty may not be a dog at all. How do you know if your new friends are true friends? Fin is about to find out. “If you love Neil Gaiman, Chris Riddell and Ransom Riggs this intriguing, enigmatic book’s for you.” IB
