Daniella Blechner

In this special feature on Sunday Morning Live, author Daniella Blechner discusses her children’s book '9 Days of Piper Snow' and the powerful role storytelling can play in helping children understand grief.

Inspired by a real white pigeon that landed on Daniella’s windowsill after she placed a photograph of her late father there — a pigeon that still visits more than three years later — '9 Days of Piper Snow' explores friendship, loss, love and the importance of treasuring precious memories. The book gently encourages families to open up meaningful conversations about grief with young people.

During the interview, Daniella also shares practical ideas such as creating a memory box to help children keep special memories alive and feel connected to those they miss. Alongside the book, Daniella works with schools, delivering workshops that support children in exploring emotions, storytelling and resilience in a safe and creative way. If we can hold someone close in our hearts, are they ever truly gone?
