Author Bio - Chris Husband

Author Chris Husband has written poems for as long as he can remember and is a published poet of two collections. He has now made his foray into children’s books with his fantastical and vibrant story, My Magical Bearded Friend.

Chris gets inspiration for his works from his environment and those around him. This magical story was inspired by a colleague with a magnificent beard for whom the story initially had been a gift. He became motivated to publish this and other stories for children when he realised after reading with his grandchildren that some of his fanciful and amusing poetry would be a great fit for kids to enjoy.

Chris thinks a great book is one that captures the imagination and transports the reader, making them a participant rather than just an observer. He hopes his young readers come away from his stories finding that reading is an enjoyable and collaborative experience, a way of escaping into a world of their own making for a short time, and that this feeling stays with them long after the book is closed.

When he’s not writing eccentric and imaginative stories for children, Chris enjoys walking in the countryside with his wife, watching football, and spending time with his family and old cat, Charlie, where they live in Lancashire, England.

Chris has taken his magical brand of poetry and story telling to local school groups where the children enjoyed reading and listening to poetry and even having a go at writing a poem together. The children love to ask all sorts of questions and become immersed in a sensory experience where they can join in with the story and learn a love of reading and writing.

Available for school and children's group visits, Chris is able to travel (with notice) anywhere around the Lancashire area

Chris can be found reading some of his work, including My Magical Bearded Friend, out loud on his website www.chrishusband.com

Below is a review following a school visit

Hi Chris,
I just wanted to send you a very belated thank you for coming in Last Friday. Both staff and children LOVED your visit....you made it a wonderfully, magical experience.
I have read all the lovely comments you wrote in the books you so kindly gifted us, and I know the children will be inspired to pick up their 'magic pens' and write.
We hope that this is just the beginning of your journey. We've had many visiting poets, authors, and actors in school, and you got such favourable feedback compared to some that I know you'd be a huge success if you were ever thinking of a career change!
We'd love to have you back in the next school year .

My Magical Bearded Friend

My Magical Bearded Friend

A mysterious dapper character appears only at night in this exquisite steampunk-esque picture book. When the sun starts to go down and the evening settles in, an elegant and mysterious man appears strolling through the town village with an air of romance and gentlemanly style. With dreamy and almost ethereal illustrations, English poet Chris Husband brings young readers a fanciful imaginative tale about a magical friend who may or may not be real. In his fantastical story, Husband’s rhymes eloquently describe a dapper gentleman, distinguished and regal, with a magnificent beard of lustrous spun silver strands, who appears after sundown and vanishes before sunrise. Artist Patricia Moffett’s exquisite and elaborate illustrations bring to mind a style of dreamy funk art or steampunk, reminiscent of another era. The story is a feast for the senses with descriptions of a top hat with glorious satin, boots of soft leather, smells of cologne, and a quiet melodious voice, enabling children to participate in a wonderfully sensory reading experience.
