Very enjoyable day

Christina (St Louis Catholic Academy) on Dave Shelton

Thank you so much for such an interactive and engaging session. The children from Year 1 - 4 took part and thoroughly enjoyed your Q&A, story reading and workshops. Your props brought the experience to life and the children were talking about their visit the next day to members of staff.

Nicki (Queen Edith Primary School) on Lou Treleaven

Simon visited our school yesterday and we had an absolutely fabulous day! Simon started the day with an all school (Primary) assembly and then, throughout the day, he ran a series of workshops with each year group. All of the children and the staff were totally engaged during the day and it's started a great project in illustrating and writing stories.

Nancy (St Teresa's Catholic Primary Academy) on Simon Murray

Dan had all of our KS2 children engaged with his session. The children really enjoyed asking him questions about his writing journey. We even had some budding authors bring in their work for Dan to critique! Thank you Dan for taking the time to listen to our children, sign their books and inspire a next generation of writers!

Clare (St Mary's Catholic Primary School) on Dan Freedman

Simon was amazing. He had a great presentation and the students were really engaged. His "Welcome to Gay Club" assembly was a great mix of humour and serious issues. We would love to have him back some time in the future.

Monica (Harris Academy Battersea) on Simon James Green

We had a great author visit with Isabel Thomas. She inspired our children and they are still talking about it.

Tanya (The Galfrid School) on Isabel Thomas

Ian visited as part of our transition week and worked with the Year 6 into Year 7 students. His shows were lively, engaging and entertaining, as well as inspiring for young readers and writers. His workshop, which included a smaller group of students, was similarly engaging and really helped the students to think about how to create a setting in creative writing. We will definitely arrange another visit in the future!

Claire (King Charles I School) on Ian Billings

A great day. The children had a great time and loved his stories

Lynn (Netherton infants school) on Nicholas Allan

Lisa (Sedgley Park Primary School) on Simon Adepetun

Ken delivered an engaging workshop to some Y2 and Y3 pupils at our school. The children were so excited to meet a real author and Ken answered their many questions patiently. All pupils were inspired to write and loved the variety of activities they did. Ken has a lovely gentle manner with the children and they were all really keen to share what they had written with him and each other. We will definitely invite Ken back for another workshop in the future. Thank you!

Rodmersham School have loved our Team session with the authors, Jan and Sara today. The children loved asking questions about the books and their lives as authors and we have enjoyed watching the children engage in the literacy and knowledge of the authors books. Very much enjoyed by us all, they both were an inspiration to all the children. Thank you, Burchett and Vogler!!

Thanks. we booked Rachel and she came on the 25th May. We really enjoyed her sessions and the children had fun learning about what it takes to be an author.

Rebecca (Bethany Junior School) on Rachel Delahaye

Ken was fantastic; his writing workshop was engaging, with plenty of ideas that the students could interact with. They created some really imaginative pieces, and were inspired to write extensively. Ken's assemblies were also engaging; he allowed students to believe that publishing is a career obtainable to them, and he answered their questions with warmth and patience. We loved having him at our school!

Louise (Kingsmead School) on Ken Preston

Simon did a really inspiring whole school assembly about not giving up, which really captured children of all ages in our school. His books also have the unique selling point of his daughter being an illustrator, which the children also loved. The workshops were really fantastic for the children to be part of, but he is probably slighter more appropriate for KS2 than KS1 in terms of workshops with his books. Either way, the kids really did enjoy having him in school as a diverse, male role model in writing and reading for them to look up to!

Emily (St. Hilda’s CE Primary School) on Simon Adepetun

Many thanks for the visit. It was a very enjoyable event and a very successful book sale!

Helen on Neal Zetter

It was a real pleasure to have Teresa visit our school. Our children were absolutely fascinated with the insight they were provided from her explanations of the writing process. It was truly priceless for our children to be so inspired and some have already begun writing their own stories!

Tammy (Bells Farm Primary School) on Teresa Heapy

Richy was both professional and extremely inspiring to both teachers and staff. He motivated the students in both sessions, and had an open manner that made all kinds of students comfortable to ask questions and join in. He was also very well organised and a strong communicator, both before (for example, planning the event with staff) and on the day, talking to a wide range of students and staff. He was passionate, not only about the industries he works in, but also topics such as reading for pleasure, promoting literacy, and following your passions in life, all topics that students responded very well to. We would definitely recommend Richy to other educational settings, and in fact already have- he was brilliant.

Rouge (The Sixth Form College, Farnborough) on Richy K. Chandler

Ian Douglas was a great addition to our activities offered on world book day. He was a pleasure to work with, the children were really inspired by his workshop and they have gone on to produce some fantastic independent writing! I would highly recommend booking Ian for an author visit to engage and inspire your children through work with an experienced author.

It was a pleasure to have Dave Shelton in school on Monday 20th February. He was extremely friendly and approachable and spent time signing books and talking with children and staff throughout the day. In particular our Librarians were really excited to spend time with Dave and asked him lots of questions. His talk to the whole of KS2 was pitched well and included lots of interesting links to his own work and inspiration behind it. He also emphasised the importance of needing to edit your work and the importance of being resilient. The children were extremely engaged in the workshops. Thank you Dave

Sarah (West Lodge Primary) on Dave Shelton

Ellie visited our school as part of our World Book Day activities. She was super and went down really well with children and staff alike. The children loved her books and Ellie was so inspiring when talking about the process of writing and becoming an author. We also loved the Science link through Ellie's book 'The Matilda Effect.' An excellent author visit.

Andy provided really engaging sessions for all year groups- from nursery to year 6. The children thoroughly enjoyed working with him and have continued to build on the workshops in their follow up lessons. Emma (Llanhari Primary School) on Andy Seed

Great visit. Thank you Maudie :-)

Lisa (Cherhill primary) on Maudie Smith

Sophie Ambrose was part of our virtual assembly where she shared some of her stories and illustrations with the pupils. The purpose for the visit was to amuse, enthuse and encourage our reluctant readers about the importance of reading. We believe that the visit will have a lasting impact on our pupils. Sophie introduced the idea that drawing a character is an uneven process for everyone – even her. Students learnt that their favourite books start as bad first drafts and become better through revision and feedback, and kids develop an understanding that their own writing can improve this way as well. Throughout the day each year group took part in workshops where they learnt more about the steps of story writing . Pupils drew their own interesting characters using their imagination with some of the characters being giants and some being very small. Pupils were fully engaged in the workshops and were able to ask some good questions. Cameron said: “Her drawings were interesting.” Saskia said: “ It was cool learning how to bring Characters to life.” Mackenzie said: “ It was interesting learning how to make a book.”

Katie (Woodfield School) on Sophie Ambrose

Matt was fantastic. He really engaged the students with his assembly and workshops, even those who did not have a particular interest in sport. We highly recommend Matt to other schools.

Zoe (Beckfoot School) on Matt Oldfield

The event with Josh was amazing. The starting assembly engaged the whole school and the workshops with each year group made the children want to spend extra time on their work. A fantastic day!

Matt (St. Peter's C of E Junior School) on Josh Lacey

I am pleased to say that Penny Joelson came to The Chalfonts Community College on Thursday 23rd February and gave a fantastic presentation to 295 Year 7, 8 and 9 students. The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and they gave some great feedback on a Survey Monkey that was sent out to them. She also did a workshop with 35 students and this was also a huge success. The students enjoyed it. I would not hesitate to recommend her to other schools. Kind regards, Elaine.

Elaine (The Chalfonts Community College) on Penny Joelson

We loved our day with Sophie. She pitched her sessions at just the right level for the children and they loved her creativity. Sophie was very friendly and communicated really well with me. She was prompt and full of energy throughout her sessions. The children particularly loved the fact that she creates characters first and then works out a plot around those ideas. Thank you, Sophie, for making our World Book Day really special!

Claire (Longwood School and Nursery) on Sophie Ambrose

The whole day was just amazing. Matt truly delivered, the pupils were engaged & didn't stop talking about for days on end. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Matt Oldfield to other schools. Our principle Rev Leach even came to me to say what a brilliant choice of author :-) I was impressed how he dedicated his time to speaking to the pupils during the lunch period too. I do hope Matt enjoyed it as much as we (Walkwood) did. Please thank him again for his time and energy. NB my library shelves are still empty of the football books, one comes in and goes straight out again.

MICHELLE (walkwood CE middle school) on Matt Oldfield

Danielle Jawando is an inspiring speaker and her workshops are creative and engaging. Our students hugely benefitted form her visit to our school and we will definitely be inviting her back to work with our students again!

Martha (William Hulme's Grammar School) on Danielle Jawando

Poppy shared her books, Don't Worry Be Happy and Hello Feelings with the children in our school. They had lots of fun learning self-help strategies and creating worry monsters with her. Thank you, Poppy.

Emily (Monks Risborough CE Primary School) on Poppy O'Neill

What can I say! We had such a fantastic day with Danielle. Firstly, she conducted engaging and inspirational assemblies for our Year 9 and 10 cohorts. This has already led to increased interest, not only in her own novels, but also the likes of Malorie Blackman, Alice Oseman, Patrice Lawrence, Dean Atta and Angie Thomas. Some of the students who previously showed little interest in writing as a career have already approached me to discuss further some of the ideas Danielle suggested yesterday. This was followed by two writing workshops with some of our Y7 and Y8 students. During this time the students created the most wonderful poetry after a free-writing exercise. I highly recommend inviting Danielle Jawando to spend time in your school. She provided our students with a lovely day, sharing her knowledge and experience in an approachable and relatable manner. We look forward to her return visits in the future. Thank you Danielle.

Janine (West Bromwich Collegiate Academy) on Danielle Jawando

A wonderful event, Sally gave interesting, inspiring talks for our younger students and a brilliant creative writing workshop for our GCSE students. Many thanks!

Melissa (Millfield Science and Performing Arts College) on Sally Nicholls

Alice was absolutely amazing and the children loved her workshops. I really enjoyed how Alice started the day talking about the journey of writing a book and this definitely inspired some of the children to become authors one day. I have heard praise from every teacher who observed Alice's workshops and they said how engaged the children were during her sessions. Alice catered for a range of ages and the children thoroughly enjoyed her workshops. Thank you again for enriching the children with a love of reading and I would love for Alice come back to us soon!

Jemma (Springmead Primary School) on Alice Hemming

this was a great event - the students got so much out of it. Joe's story telling to demonstrate how stories come together was just perfect. Joe was incredibly engaging and got across the key messages that we had discussed prior to him coming. The whole process was easy to arrange and would definitely use Joe in the future.

Marc (Future Academies Watford) on Joe Craig

Ken was brilliant. His workshops were thoroughly enjoyed by all the students. He worked with the whole of year 8 in a large workshop and also in small groups with year 10 and 9, all the students were engaged. It was amazing how quickly he got them writing creative pieces. Ken also did a year 7 assembly, we had some ICT issues which he was unfazed by and delivered the session with out his ppt, which really helped us. Would certainly book Ken again

John inspired all our children to write & contribute to their group’s pop up story book. His manner is so calm & engaging the children learnt a lot & enjoyed the day.

Sandra (Harlowbury Primary School) on John O'Leary

Kate came to us on World Book Day which was fantastic to have a real-life author in the school to help promote and foster a love of reading. She was a lovely lady who held a whole school assembly where she awarded prizes for different competitions the school held (potato character and book bingo) and then workshops for Years 1 to 4 throughout the day. Kate also spent time with Reception reading them a book. Our children enjoyed having Kate in for the day and the activities she did. One of the activities Kate did was to read a repeating poem which had the children hooked. She then orally created one with them as a whole year group. I would have liked to see the children then split into groups to create their own repeating poem and the shared these with the rest of the group. It would have then showed the children that they are all writers and authors and given them something to take home at the end of the day. Thank you so much for coming to spend the day with us, it was a pleasure.

Matthew (Springdale First School) on Kate Scott

Cat was very professional and the students engaged throughout each session. One student even advised their teacher that it was the "best lesson ever!" Cat verbally praised each student and gave time for each student to share their answers with their peers, which thus boosted their confidence. A great day was had by all.

Alison (Earl Mortimer College) on Cat Weatherill

We spent a delightful afternoon with Penny at KGGS. I thought Penny's choice of reading from I Have No Secrets hit just the right spot, the talk was well paced and interesting. The students asked lots of questions and were clearly engaged. We also sold a lot of books. The combination of thriller/protagonists with disabilities works well in highlighting diversity issues in schools.

Cathy (KGGS / Cathy Day) on Penny Joelson

Kevin's visit was a great success with year 8 pupils enjoying the talk and interaction afterwards together with books signing. I would recommend him and Seraphim and invite them in again in the future. Thank you so much

Beverley (Halstead CPS) on Rosie Radford

Our children had such a wonderful experience meeting the author of their current book, it is something they will remember for a life time. Dinah was able to converse with the children easily, taking on board their ideas for her next book. She answered any questions the children had and le then know about the writing process.

Miss (Manor Junior School) on DINAH ORJI

Damian was absolutely fabulous with the children! Right from the start, he captivated all year groups and kept them motivated throughout. By using humour with his stories, the children continually had smiles on their faces and loved the characters they created in the writing workshops!

Natalie (Our Lady & St Anselms) on Damian Harvey

We had Mark visit our school to deliver a whole school assembly and then workshops for different year groups. To say the children enjoyed it would be an understatement! During the assembly both children and staff were fully engaged, even up and dancing at one point! His use of language and story telling ability truly captured their attention and imagination. Throughout the workshops, you could hear a point drop. The children were fully engaged in learning how to draw a dragon which they then took back to their class to use as a writing stimulus. The day was a thorough success, including the book sale at the end, and I would highly recommend a visit by Mark to any school!

Matthew (Springdale First School) on M. P. Robertson

She was engaging and inspiring, the children in year 2 especially loved creating their own animals and hearing her thought process for writing. She taught some children how to draw a dinosaur, the reception children’s efforts were very impressive! Fabi’s message of resilience was particularly inspiring and something as a school community we feel very passionate about. A huge thank you to Fabi and contact an author for a brilliant world book week experience.

John helped celebrate World Book Day in our school by enriching the children with fun pop-up book ideas which the children loved! The children watched his videos beforehand and were very excited to create their own versions. John clearly modelled how to create the pop-up pages and the children couldn't wait to get started. John even catered for the Reception classes by showing his drawing skills and reading his amazing stories. The workshops made reading fun and staff/children loved the fun and engaging workshops.

We booked Daniel to come and work with three schools in our MAT during a literacy festival. He spent three days working with the three schools. The work he did with the children was fantastic and really supported the theme of the week. All the feedback from the schools within the Academy was extremely positive. Daniel made a real connection with the children teaching them about how he writes and where he gets his ideas from to how he gets these down on paper. His workshops with KS2 were engaging and really gave the children a starting point to produce some fantastic writing in the week. I would absolutely have Daniel back in our schools to share his fabulous stories and work creatively with the children. Thank you Daniel for enhancing our learning in our literacy week.

This was a wonderful event. The author is so vibrant and explanatory and had so much time for me buying and choosing my books from her. The books are magical! Well done, Philippa and good luck!

Andy was incredible at raising the profile of reading and writing for pleasure. From the beginning he was friendly, had a really good relationship with the children and had us all laughing. I had really good feedback from staff about the workshops he ran right from reception to year 6, which is very impressive. He helped to achieve our aim of encouraging reading for pleasure and all the children wanted to do was read his books! Thank you Andy for a great day and an experience the children will never forget.

We were visited by Emilie last week and the pupils were completely engaged with her speech for the entire session and have taken away some fantastic ideas to get involved with their own poetry writing. She was professional and had a brilliant rapport with pupils straight away.

We really enjoyed our visit from Lou. She was incredibly accommodating and agreed to work with all of our year groups. Teachers reported that the children really enjoyed the workshops, and many were so excited about the ideas that she gave them that they wanted to continue writing their stories at home! It was a great day and she inspired us all.

Hi there! Cat's visit was very interesting. She worked with various school children and they really enjoyed her sessions. She is a very good storyteller and also animates her sessions with music and drama. She is very good in eliciting stories from the students to draft their ideas on paper. Thank you dear Cat for making for your visit in Malta a wonderful experience for us all! :)

Simon was fantastic. He inspired the children across Key Stage 2 with his life story and how he never gave up in his dream to publish a book. He motivated children to become readers and writers and was perfect for World Book Week.

An spent the whole day with us at school on March 5th 2020 and ran three workshops. The workshops were enjoyed by children and staff. An told her stories, explained how books are made and how she had become an author. This matched well with our whole school focus on literacy. Workshops were fun and interactive, each group were left with a follow up task. Would recommend to other schools without hesitation. Thanks An!

Thank you for your visit on WBD. All pupils around the school are still talking about your books. You have helped to promote love for reading at Riverside Primary. Your books are much appreciated and pupils are currently taking turns in reading them. Pupils found the session interesting, entertaining and thoroughly enjoyed it. You have made WBD extra special for our pupils.

Julia provided engaging and fun reading workshops for all our years groups from reception to Year 6. She led a whole school assembly to kick start the day and did a story telling session of one of her books, which the younger children thoroughly enjoyed.
