Details

I’m an award-winning dyslexic author who is passionate about literacy and loves doing fun events for children of all ages to get them excited about books.

Author events

My workshops and events can be tailored to suit every setting and audience size from assemblies and classrooms to libraries and festivals.

I've written picture books and fiction and my visits can be adapted to suit children aged between 3-11 years old.

All my events are interactive and include a reading of one of my books, fun games, a Q&A, an activity, book signing and follow up worksheets.

Workshops can be based on any of my books which cover a wide range of themes including plastic in the ocean, the environment, making up stories, dyslexia (inspired by my own diagnosis), poetry, shapes, perseverance, diversity, separation anxiety, colours and rainbows.

The activities I offer range from making up a brand new story with children using my story cubes to creating origami fish, designing superheroes, going on a rainbow hunt, leading draw-a-longs and making shape characters.

I also run creative writing sessions for children and can talk about my journey as an author.

My events all encourage children to have a fun, playful approach to creativity, reading and writing.

I've worked with the BBC, National Literacy Trust, helped announce the Oxford Children's Children's Word of the Year and done events at festivals around the country including Cheltenham, Glasgow and Jersey.

Feedback

“Naomi absolutely made our World Book Day celebrations! She was able to engage a large group of 4 and 5 year old children into creating their own picture book storyboard! A fantastic communicator, Naomi has also spoken at larger events for us, including whole primary school assemblies as well as inspiring class workshops. Plymouth Schools Library Service heartily recommends the quality and content of Naomi’s books and events.” Julia Hale, School Libraries Advisor

'It was lovely! The children really enjoyed it and had some thoughtful questions to ask too. It would be great to do more things like this in the future to promote reading!' Rachel Marshall, Development, Librarian Education Library Service

"Naomi's visits are inspiring and engaging for children across the primary age range. With links to reading for pleasure, writing, PSHE and much more a day with Naomi will leave a lasting impression on your school community." Simon Pollard, Head Teacher Carclaze Primary School

The Odd Fish

The Odd Fish

A warm and funny eco-adventure with a clever message about looking after our blue planet, perfect for budding David Attenboroughs! When Little Fish and her family encounter an odd new fish bobbing along on its own, they embark on an exciting journey to reunite it with its family. But Odd Fish isn’t the only creature who needs Little Fish’s help. Turtle has a tummy ache and Octopus’s tentacles are tangled. Clever readers will spot the one thing that links them all . . . plastic. Maybe Odd Fish doesn’t belong in the sea after all? Eight million tonnes of plastic find their way into our oceans and rivers every year. That’s equal to dumping one rubbish truck every minute into the sea! This urgent problem is highlighted for the youngest readers with gentle humour and engaging characters, and offers practical ways we we can all make a real difference to protect our oceans and the creatures that live in them, and opens up key discussions about the environment and the topical issues highlighted in David Attenborough's Blue Planet.
