About me:
I have spent my career working with young children both in the UK and abroad. I now write for both children and adults. I have an MA in Creative Writing and also teach Creative Writing to adults.
About what I do:
I am passionate about the power of books to support children as they grow, to broaden horizons and deepen empathy.
Primary schools
My intention when I visit a school is to enthuse children about reading books and to get them excited about their creative potential.
I do this through a funny and interactive presentation which covers my own author journey and is suitable for one lesson in the classrom or for larger or whole school assemblies. This includes a Q&A session.
I also offer an hour long Creative Writing workshop, where children devise their own characters and take them on an imagiantaive journey!
Both of these sessions can be followed by a book signing.
High Schools
For High Schools I offer an interactive discussion about my own writing journey and writing as a career.
Adults
Writing for Children Workshop - from initial ideas to submission. Suitable for Literary Festivals and similar events.
About my Books:
My fiction books are suitable for children from approxiamtely 8-12 years old. They have been praised for their relatability and readability. They are school based, and centre on the disastrously funny life of Emily Sparkes, aged 11, as she deals with family, friends and an inconvenient new baby.
This well received series has already been translated into six languages.
I also write non-fiction and have a new book publishing in 2020, aimed at girls 8-12 years old. Find Your Girl Squad is a guide to friends and friendship and is written in collaboration with Dr Angarad Rudkin.
