I have run numerous workshops in primary schools, libraries and at literature festivals. My published books are suitable for early years and key stage one however I have worked across all years and adapt my workshops accordingly.
Prior to publishing my first children's book I was a university lecturer in illustration.
I live and work in our new build wooden house in the middle of London's East End.
Mainly I have done workshops in London but I am willing to travel if a fee can take into account travelling expenses or an arrangement to buy a quantity of my new Clive books to accompany the workshops can be made.
I am passionate about the power of creative learning, as a dyslexic myself and with 2 out of my 3 children also diagonsed with dyslexia, I greatly believe that creative workshops are invaluable to a child's self esteem.
The book that I wrote when I was six and half called "Carlo the Giraffe who could not read." was the basis for my first ever published book.
Make your own picture book character workshop.
My sessions are approximately 1 hour long and I can fit up to 5 sessions in a school day.
A typical sessions starts with a general introduction into what an author/ illustrator is, reading some books, drawing and showing examples of different picture book characters, moving onto a hands on workshop where children create their own picture book character. These can then be used as an inspiration for creative writing and picture book making.
I have previously made individual and class books in workshops.
Sessions end with a celebration of the children's work.
I provide print outs and collage material for the workshops and bring a selection of art materials with me.
I hope that my workshops show children, that even if they are struggling with spelling or learning to read, it does not need to be barrier to their creativity.
