I'm an autistic author-illustrator keen to share my knowledge with children – about being neurodiverse, and also about the wonderful wildlife we can all discover right on our doorsteps, even when we live in the city! I've written several award-winning non-fiction children's books – Let's Explore Snails, Let's Explore Ducks and Let's Explore Moths – garnering some special reviews! (See below.)

I can create workshops around the topics of neurodiversity (based on my book Gertie is Not All Dogs), or around my non-fiction wildlife titles, focusing on the science (KS1 or KS2) within those books in relation to classification and/or food webs, for example, as well as biodiversity and ecology. As an author and illustrator, I'm happy to lead workshops on both writing and/or illustration; to talk about how a picture book is put together, how I illustrate a story, how I create my characters, and how I learn to draw new things, too.

I've led various art-based workshops in schools in Chile (where I lived for more than 10 years) as well as in my local libraries. It's definitely the most rewarding aspect of my work and I'd love to do more of it!

Books by Franziska Green

I specialise in creative non-fiction books about urban wildlife – the creatures we can all find right on our doorsteps! I'm autistic and have also written and illustrated a book, Gertie is Not All Dogs, about being neurodiverse but from a dog's POV! I think laughter is an important way to engage children, and so I try to infuse all my stories and presentations with a little humour.

Gertie is Not All Dogs

Sammy knows ALL about dogs. So when Gertie joins his family, he knows exactly what she'll love! Except Gertie doesn't like chasing balls or squeaky toys, and she does not enjoy cuddles. Sammy realizes that not all dogs are the same. But that's okay. He'll work hard to figure out what Gertie really likes. Written and illustrated by debut author Siski Kalla, this book delicately explores the theme of autism, introversion, shyness, being different, and accepting that being different is okay. With its charming illustrations and touching narrative, children will easily recognize a piece of themselves and identify with the main characters. Gertie Is Not All Dogs is also available in Spanish as Gertie no es como todos los perros. A sweet story about embracing differences in others. For children ages 5 years and up.
