We had a lovely day of workshops with Nigel Blackman for our World Book Day celebrations last week. After a highly engaging assembly sharing his illustrations, he spent time with each of our KS2 classes to support their work to create dinosaur drawings based on his book.

The children and staff at Oaks absolutely loved working with Pippa on our World Book Day event. Pippa inspired children with her own stories, ran engaging workshops with children which were inclusive, supportive and challenging for all abilities. We would absolutely love to welcome Pippa back to Oaks in the future to inspire the next generation of authors!

We had a fantastic morning with Maudie, all the children were really engaged and loved seeing her books and where her ideas came from. This was a really useful insight into how writers gain their inspiration.
Thank you for a wonderful morning.

We enjoyed a very interesting and interactive day with John O'Leary on Friday. We loved seeing some of his books and hearing about how he starts his writing and illustrating process. John worked with each year group -teaching them some of his paper engineering techniques. The children thoroughly enjoyed the day. Thank you John.

Jack was an absolute hit with teachers and pupils alike! From his engaging whole school assembly in the morning to his jaw-dropping science demonstrations in the year group workshops, the whole school was buzzing. We loved hearing Jack's science based poetry- perfect for our World Book Day poetry focus. Jack was so warm and friendly- it was a pleasure having him as a visiting author. Thank you Jack!

Simon visited our specialist provision today and was just wonderful.
His sessions were perfectly paced and so captivating, you could have heard a pin drop as the students were gripped!
Simon's activities were engaging, and all classes were buzzing afterwards, keen to share what they had done and how much they had enjoyed it. Simon worked with four classes from KS1 to KS3 and each enjoyed their session just as much.
We welcome Simon back to Poppy Field any time, he was wonderful.
Thank you so much!

On Wednesday, March 6th, Cat graced us with her presence to enhance our World Book Week festivities. Her charisma and engaging demeanor captivated everyone. She skillfully tailored each session to cater to the different year groups, leaving the children in awe and thoroughly enjoying her enchanting stories. Additionally, Cat generously took the time to sign copies of her books for our school library. It was indeed a delightful visit! :)

Diana was fantastic, her organisation and communication before the event was thorough and enabled the visit to run smoothly.
Diana was amazing. She pitched her well organised and meaningful presentation at the correct level for our students and delivered it faultlessly.
It was fantastic to have someone, not only local, as an inspirational speaker but also someone who's life experiences are so relatable to many of our students.
Its always great to see our students so engaged. It was an important opportunity for them to find out about the creative process behind being an author and to inspire our young writers.
