I’m Nick Jones, an award-winning independent children’s author living in Congleton, Cheshire. I am also the owner of a children's publisher called Full Media. I am a patron of Bootle-based children's charities Ykids and Kingsley & Co.

My debut picture book Sarah’s Shadow won several awards including Best Children's Picture Book 2018 on the international book site Readers' Favorite.

My nextbook, One Night in Beartown, is based in Congleton where I live and was published in December 2020 by Full Media Ltd.

A sequel, One Christmas in Beartown, was released in December 2021.

My my fourth book, Franklyn - No Ordinary Fox, That book will be out in March 2022.

My fifth book, Snailish, will be out later in 2022.

My sixth book, Halloween in Beartown, will be published in October 2022.

My books are aimed at children aged 4-8 but older kids seem to enjoy them too. They are beautifully illustrated by my friend Si Clark. My books deal with important themes that affect kids, such as bullying, body image and self-esteem, but in a creative and subtle way that encourages the young reader to explore the meaning with their parent, teacher or carer.

Here are some snippets from reviews I've received online:

One Night in Beartown

One Night In Beartown is a glorious book that deserves to be snapped up by a production company and turned into a Christmas tradition along with those well known animations of books by Raymond Briggs or Julia Donaldson.” – Linda Hill, Linda’s Book Bag

One Night in Beartown is an awesome read; one of the best kids’ books this year; it’s most highly recommended.”  Readers’ Favorite ★★★★★

"A beautiful children’s story of friendship and resilience. Packed with vivid illustrations, an engaging story, and strong thematic messages that should resonate for young children, this is a unique addition to any bookshelf, and one that can be returned to time and again."  Self-Publishing Review, ★★★★½

Sarah's Shadow

“Jones and Clark have put together a truly lovely children’s book here, reminiscent of beloved children’s classics like Peter Pan.” – Red City Review ★★★★★

“A fantastically original story about a girl who loses her shadow, it also has an important underlying message about body image and bullying. Sarah’s Shadow is essential reading for young children and their parents.”   The Book Reviewers ★★★★★

“Sarah’s Shadow is most highly recommended.” – Readers’ Favorite ★★★★★

In 2021 I did over 20 Zoom sessions with schools where I read one of my books and then answer questions that the kids ask. On World Book Day alone I did seven 30-minute Zoom sessions! Schools in Congleton, Bristol, Burnley, Bradford ... and even one in Michigan! I have been receiving wonderful feedback - in fact one school sent me a load of letters and cards made by the kids.

I only charge £30 + VAT for a 30-minute session, and there is no limit on how many classrooms join the Zoom sessions.

Here are some of the many lovely comments I've received from schools and nurseries:

"Nick and his partner came and delivered a wonderful day of workshops for nursery, reception, year 1 and year 2. The pupils were totally engaged in the storytelling and the little ones loved the craft making. We will definitely have Nick back in the future!"
Charli Faux, Teacher, Terra Nova School

“That worked absolutely brilliantly Nick. The children came away buzzing. Thank you!”
Victoria Rippon, Headmistress, Bosley St Mary's CE Primary School, Bosley

“This was such a special experience! The kids loved hearing One Night in Beartown read aloud straight from the author. They were completely captivated by the reading of the story. What a wonderful message of friendship and imagination the book had. After zooming with Nick, we read Sarah’s Shadow as a class, and this book also was just as loved. Thank you so much Nick, for sharing your passion and love for your books this way; our class is so appreciative of you!”
Alex Boonstra, 1st Grade Teacher, Park Elementary, Michigan, United States

“Nick read Sarah’s Shadow to our year 2 children as part of our PSHE lesson. Before the Zoom call, the children thought of two brilliant qualities they have, e.g. sharing, being kind, a good friend, helpful etc. They also thought of one wish. This linked with the story as Sarah makes a wish. Nick read the story and the children shared their writing and wishes with Nick … Nick was brilliant with the children and he has a great manner with them. Thank you for such a wonderful Zoom, we ALL loved it!”
Becky Nash, Year 2 Teacher, Pownall Green Primary School, Bramhall

“To help us celebrate national story telling week, Nick delivered a Zoom call to the Preschool and Toddler children at Astbury Lane Nursery. The children loved listening to the story all about the town they live in. Nick delivered an engaging session and the children were very excited to explore his story after the call.”
Kate Smithers, Nursery Manager, Astbury Lane Nursery, Congleton

Books by Nick Jones

I have written five picture books to date, with several more bubbling away in my head. My fourth and fifth books will be published in early 2022.
Sarah's Shadow

Sarah's Shadow

If you could change something about yourself, would you do it? When Sarah Simpkins is teased about her shadow in the school playground, she finds herself wishing she didn’t have one. That night she has the chance to make the wish come true. But will losing her shadow really make her happy?
One Night in Beartown

One Night in Beartown

When bear-mad schoolgirl Sandy Lane has her beloved teddy bear Berisford confiscated at school, she dreads the thought of going a whole night without his cuddles. Little does she know that a bear-rilliant night awaits her, involving Berisford, a bear statue and many other wonderful friends!
One Christmas in Beartown

One Christmas in Beartown

The sequel to One Night in Beartown by Nick Jones, author of the award-winning Sarah’s Shadow and Franklyn - No Ordinary Fox. Before they break up for Christmas, Sandy Lane and Tommy Pickles must team up on a school project. Tommy hasn’t slept properly since the night the bear statues came to life, and Sandy needs to find a way to help him. In an act of kindness, she lends Tommy her beloved teddy bear, Berisford. She hopes this will help him overcome his fear of bears, but nothing could prepare the two children for what happens on Christmas Eve…
Franklyn - No Ordinary Fox

Franklyn - No Ordinary Fox

Franklyn is not like other foxes. He eats berries and seeds, is kind to all animals and would never knock your bin over! Sadly, the other foxes don’t like his differences, and one day the local bully, Mitchell, forces him to leave town. Franklyn’s one friend, Florence, is sad to see him go and worries that she’ll never see him again. But she won’t be worried for long – after all, Franklyn is no ordinary fox!

Squidge the slug is jealous of her snail friends with their shiny shells and feels inferior to them. When she stumbles upon a beautiful empty shell, she thinks her problems are over. Little does she know that things are about to get sticky!
